A Proud Tradition Continues

1931, Levi Bauer and Paul Turner at a Civil War Veterans service in Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield, Ohio

Bauer-Turner Funeral Home and Cremation Services represents four generations of dedicated service to Monroe County communities. In 1902, Levi Bauer and Sanford Willison founded the Bauer & Willison Furniture & Undertaking business on Main Street in Woodsfield, Ohio. In 1924 Levi Bauer built the Bauer & Willison Furniture and Undertaking building where we still operate our furniture store on Paul Street. Sanford Willison’s son-in-law, Paul R. Turner, joined the partnership in 1930. A few years later it became Bauer, Willison & Turner Furniture and Undertaking.

Up until that time undertaking had been a mobile business, as funerals were held in family homes. In 1937 Paul Turner had the foresight to purchase the Beardmore Plumbing Building, which was attached to the furniture store. There he opened the first Funeral Home in Woodsfield. During the 1950’s the sons of Paul Turner, Ronald and Davey entered the family profession. Further expansion of the business took place in 1958, when ground was broken for a modern-day funeral facility. Eventually, Paul’s grandsons, the great-grandsons of Sanford Willison, Jeffrey and Brian followed suit. At Bauer-Turner, we are proud of our past and we look forward to continuing a tradition of dedicated service to our community.
