Edith Leah Bates Brown, 96, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday October 23, 2019 at the Monroe County Care Center. She was born on the family farm south of Woodsfield March 6, 1923 a daughter of the late Richard Bates and Leona Daugherty Bates.
She was a member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ. Edith retired from the Monroe County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service – ASCS (now Farm Service Agency) in Woodsfield.
Preceded in death by her husband Paul R. Brown in 2003. Four half-brothers; Ernest, Reed, Harry, and Heber Bates, three half-sisters; Freda Edington, Emma Nalley, and Grace Turner, one brother; Guy Bates, five sisters; Mary Cline Kelch, Virginia Knowlton Weiscarver, Gladys Highman, Jane Strickling, and Eleanor Weber, and four other sisters who died in infancy.
She is survived by her daughter; Rita (Raymond) Stoehr of Woodsfield, one grandson; Raymond (Chacity) Stoehr Jr., two granddaughters; Suzanne (Thomas) Styc of Alexandria, Virginia, and Kristin Boan of Powhattan, Ohio, two great grandchildren; Ryan and Wade Stoehr, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends received from 4 – 8 p.m. Sunday October 27, 2019 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday October 28, 2019 with Scott McFarland officiating.
