Junior (Ward) Strickling, age 76 of Woodsfield, Ohio died Thursday at Barnesville Hospital. He was born June 10, 1931 in Woodsfield a son of the late Jesse Joshua Strickling and Emma Nevada McMullen Strickling.

Preceded in death by 1 brother: Jesse Strickling.
He is survived by his wife: Jane Ackerman Strickling of Woodsfield,
3 sons: Robert (Linda) Strickling - Houston, Texas,
Steven Strickling - San Bernadino, California,
Richard (Debra) Strickling - Reynoldsburg, Ohio,
1 daughter: Cheryl (Rick) Ricer - Loveland, Ohio,
2 sisters: Cyrena Campbell - Plant City, Florida,
Helen Stone - Plant City, Florida,
6 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.


Mr. Strickling was an extraordinary member of the community in his many roles as postman, fire chief, deputy sheriff, park and pool manager, and great friend to all. He taught the fireman's course in the area. Ward served in the Army at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, and the Guard and Reserves in Woodsfield. He was Civil Defense Director during the Cold War. He enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, feeding the wildlife in his backyard and operating any piece of heavy machinery. His favorite trip was with the Boy Scouts in Philmont Scout and Explorer Ranch in New Mexico.
He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and was considered "Grandpa" too many children in Woodsfield and beyond.
He was a member of the St. Paul's United Church of Christ, the American Legion, the Forty and Eight, and the Rural Letter Carriers Associating.
Ward touched the hearts and lives of anyone he encountered. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends.
His family would like to thank the community for their kindness and support.


Friends received from (2-4) & (7-9) p.m. Sunday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday August 20, 2007 with Rev. Frank Lehosky officiating. Interment in the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield, Ohio.
