Betty Wiggins Dunn Obituary

Betty E. Wiggins Dunn, born November 8, 1923, passed away on May 26, 2023 at Barnesville Hospital.  Betty, daughter of the late Harry Tank and Mina Golden Davidson Tank, was born in Hanoverton, Ohio, but moved to Clarington as a young child and attended school there. Following high school, she attended Scott’s Beauty School in Wheeling.  She operated Betty’s Beauty Nook in Clarington for over twenty years and later served as Senior Cosmetology Teacher at Swiss Hill Vocational School for over 10 years.

Her 57 – year marriage to Donald Wiggins ended with his death on August 27, 1995.  In July of 2000, she married Oscar Lee Dunn and was married to him until his death on March 15, 2016.

Betty was a member of Beallsville Church of Christ.  In her younger days, she was active in River High School Band Boosters and was a 25-year member of OES Chapter 533 Clarington.  In her retirement years, she learned to oil paint, decorated and sold blown-out eggs and was known as a person who had a talent for using color.  All who knew her well knew her favorite color was red.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, Betty was preceded in death by her only son, James Addison Wiggins; a granddaughter, Christine Thornberry; a son-in-law, Lenny Thornberry, grandson-in-law, Robb Armstrong; four sisters, Martha McIntire, Margaret Fowler, Mary Bernice Gerber, Ruth Weaver; one brother, James Harold Tank; and her dog, Jazzy.

She is survived by her two daughters, Connie and her husband David Rubel, Woodsfield and Carol Sue Thornberry, Beallsville; four stepdaughters and their spouses Linda and Charlie Bean, St. Clairsville; Judy and Bill Booth, Sardis; Dixie and Charles Loughry, Newport; and Dale and Steve Rubel, Lewisville; grandchildren and their spouses Angela Katherine and Roger Birnbaum, Plymouth, MN; Kevin and Christina Rubel, Pickerington; and Danna Rubel Armstrong, Pickerington, Ohio; Jackie and Roger Highman, Woodsfield, Jennifer and Eric Jones, Sardis; Jayme and Nancy Wiggins, 16 step grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 19 step grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday May 31st. at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio with Greg Yost officiating   Burial will follow in the Clarington Cemetery Clarington, Ohio.
