Charles Saffle Sr.

Charles F. Saffle Sr., 85 of Waverly, Ohio formerly of Woodsfield, passed away Monday November 22, 2021 at Adena Hospital Chillicothe, Ohio.  He was born in Woodsfield June 5, 1936 a son of the late David Henry Saffle and Gale Marie Hoover Saffle.

He graduated from Woodsfield High School and had worked a short time at the creamery in Woodsfield.  He then joined the Air Force for 2 years serving in Germany and the rest of the time at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base at Columbus, Ohio. While at Rickenbacker he met his wife Clara J. Blair in 1960.  They were married on June 24, 1961.  Although they had grown up 15 miles apart, they had never met until after high school.

Charles worked for the city of Columbus, Ohio and the Ohio National Guard in Wilmington and at Lockbourne Airforce base in Columbus. He served 28 years in the Air Force and Ohio National Guard.  He worked for Wright Patterson Air Force Base and retired from there.  Charles enjoyed working on Airplanes. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Roemary Saffle and two brothers Raymond and Richard.

He is survived by his wife Clara Blair Saffle, son Charles F. Saffle Jr., daughter Joyce Tolle, three grandchildren Ryan Geddes, Sean and Eric Saffle, and one great grandson Ryker Geddes.

Friends received from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday November 29, 2021 with Keith Jones officiating at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield with full military graveside services.
