Eileen Knowlton Obituary

Eileen Cora Knowlton, age 96, of Graysville, Ohio passed away March 28, 2020 at the Arbors of Woodsfield.  She was born November 29, 1923 the daughter of the late Will and Grace Beardmore Cline.

On December 19, 1942 she married her handsome Army Soldier, Lawrence E. Knowlton who preceded her in death January 6, 1990.  In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son Lawrence (Eddie) Knowlton Jr., sisters Wilma Harmon, Dorothy Cline, Thelma Buegel, Hilda Harmon, Maxine Knowlton and Imogene Piatt and brothers Chester Cline and a brother in infancy.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Carol and Frank Winland, grandchildren Melinda (Jeff) Fulk, Amber Knowlton, Joyce (Doug) Taylor, Becky (Rick) Hendershot and Kevin (Amy) Winland and great-granchildren Rowan and Cassie Fulk, Jordan and Cara Taylor, Brianna and Ryan Herdershot and Ryleigh and Kamryn Winland.

Eileen lived her entire life in the Graysville Community.  She loved to be outdoors and spent many hours in her beautiful flower beds and abundant vegetable gardens. She and Lawrence had a dairy farm for many years.  In 1967 Eileen was selected to be the Postmaster of the Graysville Post Office.  They then moved to Graysville and established the post office adjacent to their home.  Her love of the outdoors continued and when not in the post office she could be seen working in her garden.

Eileen was a life-long member of the Low Gap Christian Union Church and a member of the Ohio Homemakers.  She was also a member of the Graysville and Community Volunteer Fire Department where she donated many quilts for raffles.  She loved to travel and after her retirement went on several bus tours.  She and her sisters, Maxine and Imogene, could all be found at the local carnivals and community events.

Due to declining health Eileen has been a resident of the Arbors of Woodsfield for the past two years.  Eileen continued her out going ways taking part in events an outings.  She also continued her love of playing euchre and bingo.  She made many friends with the residents and staff at the Arbors.

There will be no visitation.  A private family service will be held at the Low Gap Christian Union Church on Tuesday March 31, 2020 at 1 p.m.  Arrangements by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield.
