Ellis G. Hines, 95 of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Thursday May 23, 2019 at Brandy Woods Assisted Living Woodsfield, Ohio. He was born March 11, 1924 at Ethol, Monroe County, Ohio a son of the late Clement Hines and Margaret Jane Winland Hines.
Ellis married Vera L. McGarry on February 27, 1943. He was an US Navy veteran serving in WWII for 2 years in the pacific and 1 year on the Atlantic. After being discharged in 1945, he returned to Canton, Ohio where he pumped gas for Standard Oil. He was then hired by H.L. Gentry Pipeline as a truck driver and later a side boom operator. He retired as Superintendent for Hinkle and McCoy Inc. Pipeline Gas Division of Pittsburg, PA. He & Vera enjoyed spending their winters in Bradenton, Florida where they were members of the East Bradenton Church of Christ. He belonged to the Operator Engineer’s #185, Masonic Lodge #300 of Stafford, Ohio, and was a member of Cambridge Shriners.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter; Sue Ellen Hines, one grandchild; Lanie King, two son’s-in-law; Clyde L. King, Gerald A. Scott (Jerry), all of his siblings; Elma (Raymond) Franks, Gladys (Charlie) Dilley, Edra (David) Rose, Edwin (infant twin to Edra), John C, Mansel (Doris), Carrie (Don) Rutledge, Katie Hines, and Ann (Forrest) Rose.
He is survived by three daughters; Betty A. King, Sharon Scott (John Hines), Robin (Joe) Bishop, 15 grandchildren; Brent (Becky) King, Scott Burdette, Steve (Lisa) King, Randy (Tania) King; Shaun (Teresa) Bright, Stacy (Greg) Reed, Darren (Laurie) Bright, Darrell (Liz) Bright, Michael (Sarah) Scott, Jodi (Adam) Chambers, Joanie (Luke) Fry, Karla Bright (Justin), Julie (Devin) Kirkbride, David (Reyna) Scott, 31 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, 8 great great-grandchildren, and 3 Step great great-grandchildren
Friends received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Monday May 27 at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, 100 S. Paul St., Woodsfield, Ohio where funeral service will be held 11a.m. Tuesday May 28, 2019. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery, Lewisville, Ohio. Military Services conducted by the VFW Post 5303 and the Beallsville American Legion Post 768. Masonic Lodge Services were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
