Frances & Luther Burke

Frances (Frannie) J.  79 and Luther (Luke) F. Burke, 76 of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away just hours apart Saturday October 2, 2021 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.  Frannie was born July 25, 1942 in Powhatan Point, Ohio a daughter of the late Tony and Pauline Mlaker Urbanek Jr. and Luke was born in Castlewood, Virginia July 31, 1945 a son of the late John & Lola Dingus Burke.

Luke and Frannie were married March 28, 1963 and spent 58 years together.

Frannie retired from Switzerland of Ohio school district as a bus driver and mechanic with 30 years of service.  Frannie and Luke along with their family ran Burke’s Towing for 20 years in Woodsfield. They were members of the Goudy Church of Christ.  Frannie was a devoted Christian reading her bible and spreading the love of Jesus.  Luke had also worked as a miner at the Powhatan # 5 mine, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Luke and Frannie were preceded in death by their son Gerald Burke, daughter Charlotte Burke, Frannie’s brother Tony Urbanek and sisters Jenny Urbanek, Susan Urbanek, and Patty Matthews and Luke’s brother Delmar (Bud) Burke.

They are survived by their grandchildren Atoshia (Jarod) Mallory of Mars, Pennsylvania, Ashley (Craig) Ferrell of Proctor, West Virginia, Zachary Burke of Woodsfield, and Katlynn (Joshua) Myers of St. Clairsville, Ohio, great grandchildren Madison and Harley Mallory, Wesley and Ian Ferrell, Jase, Luke, Brooklynn and Bryce Myers. Frannie’s brother Frankie Urbanek, sister Mary (Jim) Doty. Luke’s brothers Johnie (Linda) Burke, JD (Debra) Burke, Denzil (Teresa) Burke, sister Brenda (Graydon) Lallathin, sister-in-law Vivian Burke, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends received from 12 p.m.- 8 p.m. Tuesday October 5 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday October 6, 2021 at the Woodsfield Church of Christ 860 Lewisville Road Woodsfield, Ohio with Brent Roth officiating.  Burial will follow in the Cameron Cemetery Cameron, Ohio.
