John Lee Smith

John L. Smith 77, of Sardis, Ohio passed away Saturday June 11, 2022 at his home.  He was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia November 25, 1944 a son of the late Okey Smith and Dolly Anderson Smith.

John was a coal miner and had worked at the McElroy Mine in Moundsville, WV.  He  also worked at Marx Toy Plant, Viking Glass and in construction.

John enjoyed playing horseshoes, cards and cornhole.  He loved football and was a big fan of the River Pilots, Dallas Cowboy’s and Ohio State.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Smith, his father-in-law, Archie Piatt and mother-in-law, Hester Barker.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Miller Smith of Sardis who he married March 19, 1966, two children, Monica (Sonny) Blair of Graysville, Oh and Johnny (Chrissy) Smith of Lansing, OH.  Grandchildren, Eden (Michael) Fitzpatrick of Columbus, OH, Cody Blair of Lancaster, OH, Zachary Smith (Angela) of Columbus OH, Gwendalyn Smith of Columbus, OH, Kimberly Smith of Bridgeport, OH. Great Grandchildren, Zoey Fitzpatrick,  Devin Smith, Ashton Smith, Ma’Leek Smith, Bryce Smith and Maleigha Smith. Step grandchildren, David (Aryn) Carr of Bridgeport, OH and Robert Mullen of Bridgeport, OH and step-great grandchildren, Jerry and Brandt Carr.  Sibilings, Ronnie (Myrtle) Smith of Clarington, OH, Maribelle Conlon of Steubenville, OH, Patricia Ice,  and Rosemary.

Friends received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Tuesday June 14 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 15, 2022 with Pastor Rex Cox officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery near Graysville, Ohio.
