John Smith III Obituary

John “Johnny” Silburn Smith III of Malaga OH went to meet his Lord on February 2, 2020. He was born on December 6, 1990 in Wheeling WV.  He was the son of Amy Myers Edmunds and Ken Edmunds of Woodsfield OH and John and Michele Smith of Beallsville OH.

Johnny was a Methodist by faith and a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. from 2013 to 2017. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 768 where he served as First Vice.

Johnny served as a Sergeant in Unit 3/2 (known as the “Batio Bastards”) in Kilo Company-Weapons division. During his service, Johnny was a well accomplished Marine receiving multiple awards including Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (twice), Expert Rifle Qualification Badge (twice), and Sharpshooter Pistol Qualification Badge.

Johnny was employed with the Heat & Frost Insulators Local # 2

He was preceded in death by infant brother, Luke Edmunds; paternal grandmother, Judith Smith; and cousin Troy Wells.

He is survived by his parents, his loving wife Chelsea Wax Smith and their two beautiful daughters Madison Nicole and Melanie Judith, who along with his wife, were his whole world. He is also survived by brothers Will Edmunds, Kole Edmunds, Hank Edmunds, and Reed Smith…Grandparents Tom and Julie Myers, and John Smith… Great Grandmother Helen Myers… numerous cherished Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and a Niece and a Nephew… all of his brothers and sisters of the USMC… and lifelong friend and mentor, Mike Lemley.

Visitation will be at Bauer & Turner Funeral Home in Woodsfield OH on Friday Feb. 7, 2020 from 2:00 – 4:00PM and again from 6:00 – 8:00PM. Additional visitation will be available on Saturday Feb. 8th from 11:00AM to time of service at 1:00PM officiated by Rusty Atkinson, immediately followed by Military Services at Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield OH.
