Loretta Ewers - Clymer Obituary

Loretta Mae (Ewers) Clymer went home to the Lord on December 25, 2025 after losing a lengthy health battle, but having fought an heroic fight. She stands as a woman of resilience, of honor, of great strength and a woman proud of her military service and her family.

Loretta was born on December 7, 1940 to James Howard Ewers and Stella Luella (Hall) Ewers near New Matamoras, Ohio. She leaves this earth to help prepare a place for her family members in our final resting place; her son Steve Ewers and wife Kimberly (Murphy) Ewers of Sissonville, WV; her son Shane Clymer of Demossville, KY; and her sister Mary (Ewers) Kehl and husband Danny Kehl of Woodsfield, OH. Her grandchildren are Jessica (Ewers) Eastridge and husband Chris Eastridge of Charleston, WV; Joshua Ewers of Pittsburgh, PA; Zach Clymer of Demossville, KY; Alex Clymer and his wife Cheyenne (Hurston) Clymer of Demossville, KY and Mitchell Clymer, also of Demossville, KY. Her great grandchildren are Nathan and Harvey Clymer of Demossville. She leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins who love and adore her as well.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her father Howard and mother Stella, is her beloved brother Elvin Eugene Ewers.

Loretta enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and, after basic training, was stationed at the Presidio Army Base in San Francisco, CA where she served as a Personnel Specialist, PS1. She advanced to PS4 in under 13 months. This was more rapid than any previous PS1 had advanced to that level in the history of the US Army at that time. With the exception of her children, this was her greatest source of pride.

Loretta worked two jobs each day for the majority of her life in Woodsfield. She held various server and food preparation jobs over those years while concurrently working at LGAM Sewing Factory for over 30 years. She retired from both LGAM and Reisbeck’s Market Restaurant and a few years later moved to West Virginia. Her life was dedicated to providing for her family, many times at great sacrifice.

To those of us who remain, she provides a model of strength, resilience and devotion to family. She is loved by all. Services will be held at Bauer & Turner Funeral Home on South Paul St. in Woodsfield, Ohio on Monday, December 29, 2025.

Visitation by friends and family will begin from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Monday December 29, 2025 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio with Pastor Danny Kinder of Sissonville, West Virginia officiating.  A graveside service will be held immediately following at Brownsville United Presbyterian Cemetery in Brownsville, Ohio.

Full military service will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Monday prior to funeral service.
