Marcia Ann Ady Haren

Marcia Ann (Ady) Haren, 79, of Woodsfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.

She was born on August 15, 1946, in Cameron, Ohio, to the late Doris J. Ady and Ralph K. Ady. Marcia grew up in Cameron, where she cherished fond memories of time spent with her family and playing in the creek during her childhood.

Marcia was a gifted musician whose love for music shaped both her life and the lives of countless others. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music from The Ohio State University School of Music and went on to dedicate many years to teaching. She served as a music teacher for Switzerland of Ohio Local Schools, Skyvue District, and later taught music and religion at St. Sylvester’s Catholic School in Woodsfield.

For decades, Marcia also shared her talents as a private piano instructor, teaching hundreds of students throughout the region. She organized countless recitals over the years to showcase the accomplishments of her students and took great pride in nurturing young musicians. A true musical prodigy, Marcia was an extraordinary pianist who could sight-read nearly any piece placed before her.

Her musical gifts were also shared faithfully with many congregations over the past fifty years. She served as pianist for Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarington, Buchanan Presbyterian Church in Lewisville, and Woodsfield Presbyterian Church, where her music enriched worship and became a treasured part of church life.

In addition to her work in education and music, Marcia was also a bookkeeper for the Richard Haren & Son Lumber Company of Woodsfield, Ohio.

Marcia’s faith was central to her life. She was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Woodsfield Church of Christ. In recent years, her Presbyterian church family also became a cherished second family to her.

Beyond music, Marcia had a deep love of language and learning. She was an avid reader whose favorite books included the Bible and religious and historical nonfiction. As a hobby, she enjoyed editing and proofreading books, often marking corrections in the margins and pages. She was also an enthusiastic crossword puzzler, happily working her way through entire books of puzzles from beginning to end.

Marcia was proud of her heritage as a descendant of the Shawnee Indian Tribe and felt a strong connection to Native American history and culture. She also had a fondness for classic cowboy shows and westerns, which she enjoyed watching throughout the years.

Above all, Marcia loved her family deeply. She was a caring, compassionate, and amazing mother and daughter. She is survived by her children, R.J. Haren (Leslie) of Stanford, Kentucky, and Ginger Yonak of Dublin, Ohio; her granddaughter, Hannah Yonak, who was the light of her life; her grandson, Sam; her brother, Brian Ady of Powhatan, Ohio; and her sister-in-law, Jo (Dale) Eddy of Woodsfield, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Jim Haren.

In keeping with Marcia's wishes, there will be no public services. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later time.

Marcia will be remembered for her deep faith, remarkable musical gifts, dedication to her students, and the quiet but lasting impact she made on the many lives she touched. Her music, her teaching, and her devotion to God will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The Monroe Arts Council has set up a dedicated fund to provide educational opportunities to Monroe County youth for music education.

The Marcia Ady/Haren fund for Music Education will provide Monroe County youth with private lesson opportunities in the areas of piano, guitar, violin/fiddle, and voice to name a few.  Additional disciplines are open for consideration.

Marcia’s life was dedicated to music instruction: therefore, The Monroe Arts Council is establishing an opportunity to continue her vision to be a legacy of music education as her memorial.
