Marian Brown Obituary

Marian Sue (Susie) Brown passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025 at the age of 85. She courageously fought a 3-year battle with incurable cancer that she knew she wouldn’t win, but fought nonetheless. She is survived by her husband, Paul V. Brown, three children, Paula Canter, Gina Workman both of Columbus, Ohio and Darrin Brown of Trail Run, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and her brother, Richard Busche of Smithville Ohio. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Brown and her parents, Raymond and Florine Busche.

Marian Sue was born and lived her entire life on the farm her family thrived on for several generations. Marian Sue was the first 4-H Queen in Monroe County. She graduated from River High School with the class of 1957, then married Paul, her husband of 66 years. The wedding gown she wore was crafted by her skilled hands, as was much of the clothing her children wore. Marian Sue was a professional leader and volunteer. She held officer positions in several organizations throughout her adult life: Midway Grade School PTL, Girl Scouts, President of the Lohr Reunion, President of the Extension Homemakers (now OHCE) both state and local as well as President of the National Country Women’s Council. That position afforded she and Paul the opportunity to travel to many destinations within the United States. Her technical and creative skills came into play during her time as National Editor of the FCE newsletter, the U.S. branch of the National Country Women’s Council. She spearheaded many fundraising activities as a co-founder of the Midway Community Center, including the organization and execution of many fish fries as well as stocking, hauling, preparing and serving food from the Midway concession trailer. She also played the organ at St. Paul’s Church for +50 years and was very active in the life of her church, holding various leadership positions. There was never a time when she was not giving to her family and community.

Although Marian Sue’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing.

Friends will be received from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday May 24, 2025 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio and from 12 noon until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday May 25 at St. Paul’s Church Trail Run near Antioch, Ohio with Pastor Rick Lynch officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
