Mary Ethel Cline Bassett, 95, of Woodsfield and later Graysville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. She went home to be with Jesus, whom she faithfully followed throughout her life.
Mary was born on June 30, 1930, to Russell Cline and Myrtle Smith Cline. She was a woman of deep faith, quiet strength, and enduring love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Bassett; her sister, Millie Mobberley; step-sister, Maxine West; son, Roger Shannon; daughter-in-law, Debbie Shannon; daughter, Emma Williams; son-in-law, Randy Williams; and great-granddaughter, Hadassah Williams.
Mary is survived by her son, Ross (Pam) Shannon; her grandchildren, Natalie (John) Fisher, Derek (Bobbi) Shannon, Travis (Kate) Williams, and Jacob (Spencer) Williams; along with her beloved nieces, nephews, extended Shannon family, and many cherished great-grandchildren.
She spent many years in Woodsfield before later residing in Graysville, Ohio. She also lived in Florida for 10 years while getting her paralegal in Manatee Jr College in Sarasota Florida. Mary was a devoted member of Woodsfield Christian Church. She worked faithfully in the Auditor’s Office and later for Judge Jim Peters.
Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures—cheering on Ohio State Buckeye football, baking delicious homemade pies that brought her family together, and lovingly caring for her Boston Terriers, each one affectionately named Jennie.
Above all, Mary will be remembered for her unwavering faith and her love for her family.
Friends will be received from 12 noon until time of funeral service at 2p.m. Wednesday April 8th. at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio with Travis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Low Gap Cemetery near Graysville, Ohio.
