Mary Colvin Obituary

Mary Ellen Colvin, 71 of the Antioch Community passed away at the Wetzel County Hospital on September 13, 2021. Mary was born on January 29, 1950 a daughter of the late Clarence R. (RIP) and Inez Dalrymple.

She was a 1968 graduate of Woodsfield High School and a member of the Plainview Church of Christ.

Mary held many various jobs throughout her lifetime which touched countless lives including working at Riesbeck’s deli, attending to clients at the Economy Store, Pat’s Gift Shoppe, Creative Expressions, a cashier at Dollar General, an aide at MACO and watching and caring for many children in her home throughout the years.

In addition to her jobs Mary enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was a skilled seamstress, an avid reader, enjoyed a good movie, true crime mysteries, solving the Wheel of Fortune puzzles before anyone else in the room and she liked good music.

Mary was well-known for her sweet tea and of course for her beloved side kick precious love “Buddy” the human dog. Mary was a friend to all who knew her and made everyone feel special and important. She took the time to listen to people. She had a contagious smile which always made people feel welcome into her home, on her front porch and in her heart. Mary radiated positivity and love wherever she went. You always felt better after having a conversation with Mary. Mary was fun, ornery, silly and just a pleasure to be around. She will truly be missed.

While it broke Mary’s heart to lose her oldest daughter, Tracy, she continued to be a guiding light in Tracy’s children’s lives all the while supporting Teena’s children in their battle with Type I diabetes. All of Mary’s grandchildren brought continuous joy to her life and a smile to her face at the mention of their names. If one phase could describe Mary it would be “dedicated” and “devoted” to her family and friends.

In addition to her parents RIP and Inez Dalrymple, she was preceded in death by her daughter Tracy Colvin Knight, sisters Carole Reon and Nancy Geldmacher.

Mary is survived by her loving husband Rick of 53 years, her daughter Teena and Teena’s husband Jeff (the son she always wanted and adored) Cummings of Olive Branch, MS, six grandchildren Kelsie (Brandon) Knight, Jeffrey Cummings, Asia Knight, Cannon Knight, Kacee Cummings and Tatum Knight, siblings Dick and Larry Dalrymple of Oak Land Park, FL, Ray (Denise) Dalrymple of Woodsfield, Oh, David (Diane) Dalrymple of Woodsfield, OH, sisters-in-law Phyllis Colvin of Marysville, OH, Karen McVay of Belpre, OH, several nieces, nephews and her beloved canine Buddy and two very special “like” daughters to her Amy Brown and Theresa Piatt.

Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. Thursday September 16, 2021 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. with Sam Bartrug officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Church of Christ Cemetery.
