Richard J. Hopton

Richard J. Hopton 89, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away peacefully in his home Monday November 14, 2022.  He was born in Woodsfield May 1, 1933 a son of the late John E. and Maud E. Hopton.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Richard loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed his tractors and working around the family farm. Richard loved telling jokes, and spending time with his friends and neighbors.   He served as an Elder at the Woodsfield Christian Church for many happy years.  He lived in Rittman, Ohio where he retired from Sears & Roebuck after 35 years of service.  After retirement he and his wife Betty returned to the family home in Woodsfield.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Denzel Hopton. 

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty J. Noble Hopton of Woodsfield,  two sons; James (Susan) Hopton of Illinois, and his children Raquel (Kyle) Horvatin of Chicago, Rhett (Hannah) Hopton of Illinois and Reggie Hopton of Illinois and Ireland Lenz of Illinois, son; Jeff (Stephanie) Hopton of Curtice, Ohio and their children; Megan Hopton of Cincinnati, Ohio, Eric (Chelsea) Hopton of Belmont, Ohio, Heather (Drew) of Kentucky, Jennifer Hopton of Marion, Ohio Tiffany (Lannie) Ludwig of Doylestown, Ohio and Ricky (Tarah) Cavendish of Marion, Ohio, 9 great grandchildren; Aria, Clara, Aiden, Raelynn, Rowan, Ricky, Elicia, Jayce and Kayleigh, brother and sisters Ronald , Carolyn and Marilyn all of Michigan.

Friends will be received from 5 – 7  p.m. Thursday November 17 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio, and from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Friday November 18, 2022 at the Woodsfield Christian Church 211 N. Main St. Woodsfield, Ohio with Pastor Brad Postal officiating.  Burial will follow in the Oaklawn Cemetery Woodsfield.
