Robert Barkes Obituary

Robert L. Barkes 71, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Saturday September 14, 2024 at Arbors at Woodsfield.  He was born in New Martinsville, West Virginia November 5, 1952 a son of the late Joseph and Anna Harris Barkes.

Bob had worked on the pipeline in Louisiana with his father many years ago and also worked and traveled with the carnivals and fairs and later years worked at True Value.  In the 1980’s he enjoyed his CB radio and his handle was Hot Rod.  Bob had also been a volunteer for the American Red Cross, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Smith Barkes in 2015, and his brother Harold Barkes.

He is survived by three sons; Robert J. (Brandy) Barkes of Woodsfield, Kevin Barkes of Powhatan Point, Ohio, and Adam (Brandi) Barkes of Antioch, Ohio, grandchildren Alik, Sheldon, Micheal, Wyatt, Bella, Allania, Chantell, Keanu, Paige, and Zachery, and great grandchildren Bo, Shirley, Gunner, Hunter, Lilah, and Miura, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and from 4 p.m. until time of funeral service at 6 p.m. Wednesday September 18, 2024 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield Ohio.  Inurnment will take place at the convenience of the family at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Jerusalem, Ohio.
