Roger Elliott Obituary

Roger Lee Elliott, 75 of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Sunday February 7, 2021 at Barnesville Hospital Barnesville, Ohio. He was born in Woodsfield, December 16, 1945 a son of the late Vernon “Homie” Elliott and Evelyn Lucille Denbow Elliott.

Roger served in the US Marine Corp with the 5th Marine Division deployed to Vietnam in ‘66.  He participated in amphibious operations such as Operation Deckhouse and Operation Hastings.  He was a mortarman with the 13th Marine Regiment (artillery) who received the following:

PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION to the THIRD MARINE DIVISION (REINFORCED) For extraordinary heroism and outstanding performance of duty in action against the North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong forces in the Republic of Vietnam.

After military service Roger worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for 29 years.

Roger was a member of the Woodsfield Nazarene Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion post 768.

With his wife by his side they served the veterans and community for 45+ years.

The last few years Roger was totally disabled due to Agent Orange service connected injury.  He passed away related to these injuries.    

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter Dorothy “Dottie” Elisabeth Elliott Hunley Feb. 2010, brothers Robert Elliott, Terry Elliott and sister Susan Elliott.

He is survived by his wife Tona Jo White Elliott of Woodsfield, son Roger LW (Tammy) Elliott of McLean, VA, who in honor of his father also served as a Sergeant in US Marines for eight years, brother Dale (Dorothy) Elliott of Woodsfield, sisters Bonnie Selvy of Woodsfield and Lisa (Dennis) O’Neal of Barnesville and a granddaughter Dakota Hunley.

Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Bauer-Turner Funeral Home Woodsfield, Ohio.
