Roy K. Mercer, 98 of Jerusalem, Ohio passed away Monday January 10, 2022 at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehab at Barnesville, Ohio. He was born August 13, 1923 in Jerusalem, Ohio a son of the late Henry & Clara Hays Mercer.
He was a World War II Army veteran having received 2 Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service then worked for Oxford Oil until the age of 92. He was also a member of the Wheeling Carpenters Local # 3 and a member of the Beallsville American Legion.
Preceded in death by his wife Sue Jane Mercer, July 15, 2019, and son-in-law Richard “Bud” Betts.
He is survived by a daughter Vickie Betts of Jerusalem, grandchildren Larry (Mercy) Phillips of Beallsville, and Cheryl Moore of Jerusalem, great grandchildren Joshua Ault, and Andrew, Katherine, Levi, Vincent, and Kevin Phillips and one great-great grandchild Remington Ault.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. Friday January 14, 2022 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday January 15, 2022 with Josh Hetrick officiating. Military Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Cemetery Jerusalem, Ohio.
