Vera Byers Obituary

Vera Imogene Byers, 91, of Marietta Ohio formerly of Monroe County, Ohio peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus in the presence of family on February 26, 2024 with her son Paul Jr. holding her hand.

Vera was born August 8, 1932 in Graysville, Ohio, the daughter of Ewart and Ethel Briggs Cox.  Vera attended school at Graysville and graduated from Graysville High School where she enjoyed being a cheerleader.

Vera married the love of her life Paul William Byers Sr. on February 17, 1951 at the Woodsfield Church of Christ. She always said he was her best friend. They lived on Trail Run where they raised their four children. They owned and operated various businesses in New Matamoras, Ohio. They moved near Antioch, Ohio when their children were raised and built a new home there. They enjoyed living on the farm as long as their health permitted them to maintain it. They then moved to Woodsfield, Ohio where they were active and enjoyed living there and renewing old friendships and making new ones. After Paul’s death, Vera moved to Marietta, Ohio to be near family. She absolutely loved spending time with her family and working on genealogy research and mastered the use of her computer. She was able to live independently for several years. She then moved to The Pines Assisted Living in Marietta where she was very active and had many close friends among the staff and fellow residents.

Vera truly loved reading her Bible and sharing the love of God and Jesus with everyone she met.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband Paul William Byers, Sr., parents Ewart and Ethel Cox, brothers Stanley Cox, Emerson Cox, and Delbert Cox, as well as a grandson Zachary Ruble, and daughter-in-law Ruth Ann Rich Byers.

Vera is survived by her children Rita Rosenlieb (Coy) of Trail Run, Paul William Byers Jr., (Paula) of Palmetto, Florida, Thomas Byers (Jodi) of York, Pennsylvania, and Paula Ruble (Jay) of Punta Gorda, Florida. She also leaves behind her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Troy Rosenlieb (Christina, Ava, Troy II), Mindy Panepinto (Mark, Alessandria, Anthony), Timothy Byers (Valerie, William, Samantha), Chad Paul Byers, Austin Byers (Carissa, Nolan, Lanna Ruth), and Nathan Ruble. She is survived by her brother James Cox of Woodsfield, Ohio as well as several nieces and nephews.
