Virgil Rush

Virgil E. Rush, 85 of Quaker City, Ohio passed away Thursday January 6, 2022 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, Ohio. He was born April 18, 1936 in Monroe County, Ohio a son of the late Samuel P. & Rosa Iona Bonifield Rush.

Virgil worked in the Carpenter’s Union early in life.  He was the owner of Rush Logging and timbered most of his life.  He was a trustee for Seneca Township and later worked for Beaver Township. 

Virgil loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing.  With his quick wit and humor, he was not just the life of the party - he was the party.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Hildred Mareno and Barbara Lucas and brothers Samuel Loren Rush and Damon Rush.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary Alice Rush; children Cindy Barton of St. Clairsville, Sam Rush, Cathy (Shelby) Cline, Virgil Rush II, Randy Rush, Loretta Stephens (Brad Crooks), all of Woodsfield, Robert (Pam) Elliott Jr. of Columbus, Michael Elliott of Caldwell, and Laura (Ed) Perkins of Pleasant City;  four sisters, Elsie Baker of Woodsfield, Hazel Petty of Cleveland, Faye Parish of Woodlawn, Virginia and Pauline (Chuck) Reed of Beallsville; two brothers Clifford Rush and Paul (Patricia) Rush of Woodsfield;  fourteen grandchildren, April (Kevin) Trump, Walter (Kari) Wayts Jr., Andrew (Cynthia) Wayts, Eric (Natalie) Brown, Aaron Brown, Josh Rush, Heather (Dustin) Monroe, Derek (Lacie) Stephens, Cierra Perkins, Austin Perkins, Clayton Elliott, Camden Elliott, Michael Bush and Nathaniel Bush; fifteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, January 9 at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 10, 2022 with Don Thompson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery Calais, Ohio.
