Rev. Dennis David Sparks, age 68, of Woodsfield, Ohio passed away Monday January 22, 2018 at his home.  He was born in Columbus, Ohio May 1, 1949 a son of the late Carolyn Eshelman Sparks, and David Sparks of Columbus, Ohio.  

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Woodsfield.  He was a retired Minister of the Christian Church Disciples of Christ and the United Church of Christ. His ministries included serving parts of Ohio, West Virginia and Chicago dedicating his life as an advocate for the poor, community organizer and seeker of justice for all.

In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by one sister Priscilla Bozeman and one brother Darin Sparks.  

He is survived by his wife Rebecca (Griffith) Sparks of Woodsfield, father David Sparks of Columbus, two sons Micah (Mica) and Daniel (Megan) Sparks both of Delaware, Ohio, two grandchildren Coltin and Sierra, and one step granddaughter Lillian, siblings Lanette Freitag with Don Bowels, and Dean (Sue) Sparks.

Friends will be received from12 noon until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday January 27, at the Karl Road Christian Church, 5400 Karl Rd. Columbus, Ohio.   Friends will then be received from 1 p.m. until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday January 28, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Woodsfield.  Burial will follow in the Moffett Cemetery near Woodsfield.   In lieu of flowers family request memorial contributions be made to the Switzerland of Ohio Ministerial Association (SOMA-Food Bank) 132 S. Main St. Woodsfield, Ohio 43793 and or the ALS Association Central and Southern Ohio Chapter 1170 Old Henderson Rd. #221, Columbus, Ohio 43220.

Sparks Family, my deepest sympathy on the passing of Dennis. I will remember him as a kind and caring person. May God wrap his arms around all of you during these most difficult times, and bring you comfort.

Our deepest sympathies to the whole family of Dennis. We remember him as
as gentle soul of deep conviction. He also introduced us to the Zoughbis of Palestine and the ongoing situation there. We will miss seeing him at assemblies of the Christian Church.

IT WAS MY PRIVILEGE TO SERVE GRANGER UM SAME TIME AS DENNIS WAS AT REMSEN I ADMIRED HIS HEART FOR THOSE WHO HURT AND HIS LOVE FOR THE LORD I REMEMBER HE GOT ME TO DRESS LIKE A CIRCUIT RIDER AND WE RODE INTO THE CHURCH ON HORSES TO HELP CELEBRATE 100 YEARS GOD BE WITH YOU REBECCA AND FAMILY
